London, Ontario, known for its eclectic blend of industries, recently took a moment to celebrate its flourishing business diversity at an impressive gala event. The London Chamber of Commerce hosted the event, drawing over a thousand attendees to honor local enterprises.
Among the highlights, a broad spectrum of businesses, from a reputable brewing giant to innovative niche companies and emerging local favorites, were recognized for their contributions to the community and economy.
The coveted large company of the year award was clinched by Labatt Brewing Co. Ltd., a historic figure in London's business scene. Established in 1847, Labatt remains a pillar of the local economy, with substantial expansions and an employee base that now exceeds 3,600 across Canada.
Winning the medium-sized business category was Orca Intelligence Inc., a freight audit firm that has demonstrated remarkable growth and innovation. Founded in the InfoTech building on Ridout Street, Orca has expanded its team significantly since winning the small business title just a few years ago.
London Bicycle Café, a hub for coffee lovers and cycling enthusiasts, bagged the award for small business of the year. Owner Andrew McClenaghan spoke of the honor of being recognized, as the café not only promotes healthy living but also contributes to the burgeoning Riverwalk community along the Thames River.
The gala also celebrated a wide array of other local heroes. Proof Line Farm took home the agribusiness award, recognizing their excellence in sustainable farming practices. General Motors of Canada Co.'s Cami assembly plant received accolades for environmental leadership, showcasing the company's commitment to sustainability in manufacturing.
The innovation award was claimed by ITPS Canada Ltd., and PSD Citywide Inc. was lauded for its excellence in people and culture. Meals on Wheels London received the nonprofit award, marking its invaluable service to the community.
