❤️ London Review

The Morrissey House

Located in the heart of downtown London, Ontario, The Morrissey House offers a homey yet vibrant atmosphere. Spread across a former residential building, it seamlessly merges the comfort of a pub with a diverse menu that caters to a wide range of tastes. A highlight of this cozy pub is its large outdoor patio, perfect for those warm summer evenings.

The Morrissey House boasts an impressive selection of Ontario craft beers, with nine taps exclusively pouring local brews. If you're into craft beers, this spot won't disappoint. They also support local artists, featuring a rotation of artwork on the walls, adding to the charming and laid-back ambiance.

Food-wise, this pub delivers some intriguing dishes. Starting with the calamari, it’s lightly breaded and fried to perfection, served with a zesty tzatziki sauce — it's an excellent beginning to any meal. Another noteworthy appetizer is the bulgogi poutine. This uniquely Canadian-Asian fusion dish combines Korean bulgogi beef with classic poutine elements like cheese curds and gravy, topped with kimchi and scallions. It’s both savory and spicy, creating an unforgettable flavor profile.

For the mains, the schnitzel stands out. It's available in pork or chicken, breaded and fried to a crisp golden brown, served over smoked cheddar spaetzle with a side of mushroom gravy. This dish showcases a lovely harmony of textures and flavors. Another popular choice is the lamb shank, slow-braised and served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, making for a hearty and satisfying meal.

Seafood lovers should try the fish and chips. While some may find the portion size a bit on the smaller side, the quality more than makes up for it. The fish is a crunchy delight, and the fries are perfectly seasoned. Pair it with their house-made tartar sauce for an elevated experience.

Don't miss out on their dessert options either. The tiramisu is particularly commendable and provides a sweet ending to the meal. The Morrissey House also offers live music on certain nights, enhancing the overall dining experience with a mix of 80s and 90s hits and contemporary tunes.

As for service, it can be a mixed bag. When it's good, it's very attentive and friendly, but there are instances where it can be slow and somewhat inattentive. This inconsistency might be worth keeping in mind if you are planning a visit during their busier times.

Regarding reservations, it’s recommended to call ahead, especially on weekends or if you plan to sit on the patio. The Morrissey House operates a walk-in policy but does try to accommodate reservations when possible.

The Morrissey House is a genuine neighborhood pub with solid food offerings and an excellent selection of local beers. While the service might occasionally falter, the overall experience and atmosphere make it a worthy visit.
