Hey, artists! The Arts Commission and the City of Toledo's Parks Department have an exciting opportunity just for you. They're on the hunt for creative talents to design a fresh look for the new shoot-around court at Inez Nash Park. Whether you're a painter, muralist, or digital artist aged 18 and above, this could be your moment!

The unique project isn't just about surface-level aesthetics. The Design Review Board is looking for standout artists or teams to reimagine the 50 by 30 feet (that's a whopping 1170 square feet) of the court and each of the five backboards. Imagine your work splashed on a community court where kids, teens, and adults come to play—and be inspired.

Being chosen as one of the three finalists comes with its perks. Not only will you get a chance to bring your vision to life, but each finalist will also earn a sweet stipend of $2,000. But there's more to this gig! The Arts Commission wants artists who can integrate public art into park settings and weave in community input. So, if you're someone who loves a creative challenge and community engagement, this one's for you.

Now, don't worry, you don't have to do it all completely solo if collaborating is more your style. Artist teams from diverse disciplines are also welcome to apply. And yes, this opportunity is open to all artists across the U.S. So, whether you're from right here in Toledo or from another corner of the country, throw your hat in the ring, or rather, your brush in the paint bucket!

To get started, submit your qualifications online through the Arts Commission website. Here are some key dates to jot down: The Request for Qualifications launches on August 21. Make sure to submit your RFQs by September 24. Reviewing begins September 25, and finalists will be notified by October 17. If you make it to the finals, you'll get to visit the site on October 29. Final proposals will be presented by December 3, and winning designs will be announced on December 17. Mark your calendars because the winning designs will be installed in 2025!

But here’s a little pro tip: make sure your designs are not just visually stunning but also meaningful to the community. It's all about striking a balance between creativity and community impact.

One more thing—the Arts Commission is huge on inclusion, diversity, equity, and access. They stand firm on these principles to create spaces that encourage conversations, foster healing, and develop compassion. Their mission is to make arts accessible and inclusive for everyone in Toledo. Recognize the importance of these values as you conceptualize your designs.

Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a budding talent, this is an awesome opportunity to leave your mark on Toledo. Get your creative juices flowing and join in transforming Inez Nash Park's shoot-around court into a beacon of art and community pride. Good luck!
