Women of Toledo are set to host the 6th annual Women’s Equality Day forum at the Glass City Center on August 26th. This highly anticipated event will run from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and promises to be a pivotal gathering for discussions on healthcare, economic justice, education, political representation, and gender-based violence.

Starting at 2 p.m., the event kicks off with a Listening Session, featuring Table Topics led by community leaders. This interactive session aims to engage participants in meaningful conversations about the challenges and triumphs women face in various aspects of life.

Following the Listening Session, attendees can enjoy some light networking and appetizers from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is a perfect opportunity to mingle with like-minded individuals who are passionate about equality and empowerment.

At 5:30 p.m., there will be a formal welcome and introduction, setting the stage for the evening's highlights. One of the key moments in the event is the Women's Town Hall from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., where pivotal issues will be addressed and actionable solutions will be discussed.

A special reception will be held at 4:30 p.m. featuring Gwendolyn Winston, a dedicated Detroiter and President of G. Bailey Winston Enterprise. Her insight and experience are bound to inspire attendees and amplify the event’s impact.

Women’s Equality Day commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which extended voting rights to women. However, it wasn’t until the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that all African Americans, including women, were granted full voting rights. This day highlights both historical strides and ongoing challenges in the quest for true equality.

The forum doesn’t just reflect on past achievements but actively tackles present-day issues. Women in Greater Toledo still encounter barriers rooted in gender, race, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation, nationality, language, and religion. It's crucial to recognize how these intersecting forms of oppression impact women’s lives and the paths toward equality.

This annual event hosted by Women of Toledo offers a unique platform for community engagement and empowerment. By addressing inequalities and fostering dialogue, the Women’s Equality Day forum serves as a catalyst for progressive change in Toledo and beyond.
