Toledo's annual Buddy Walk is striding back for its 23rd year, bringing the community together in support of individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Organized by the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo (DSAGT), this year's event promises to be a memorable one filled with joy, awareness, and community spirit. The festivities kick off on Sunday, October 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Owens Community College. With a tailgate-style celebration planned, attendees can look forward to an exciting day on campus.
What's special about the Buddy Walk? It's far more than just a walk — it's a gathering filled with a vibrant mix of activities. Pre-walk entertainment includes music, pumpkin painting, inflatables, and face-painting stations. If you're the competitive type, dive into the action with tailgate games or try your luck with basket and 50/50 raffles. For families with little ones, there's even a special toddler inflatable to ensure everyone's having a blast.
No event is complete without delicious food, and the Toledo Buddy Walk is no exception. Savor a variety of treats from local food trucks like Koral Hamburger, Deets BBQ, Falafel King, and Sweet Nate's Coffee. Whether you're in the mood for some savory bites or a sweet pick-me-up, there's something for everyone.
The Buddy Walk is more than just a fun day out; it's an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Down syndrome, bringing together community members, volunteers, and sponsors united by a common cause. Registering for the event not only secures your place in the walk but also helps support DSAGT’s impactful work in the region. Plus, participants who sign up early will receive a commemorative t-shirt while supplies last.
If you're planning to make a day of it, don't forget to bring along your pop-up tent or folding chairs to lounge in at the tailgate area. While you're welcome to bring your own snacks and beverages, please note that grills are not allowed on campus. Make sure to have cash on hand for any raffles you’d like to enter.
Parents of children with Down syndrome have the advantage of parking directly in the main tailgate area, with additional parking available for guests nearby. Pack up the strollers and wagons to stroll comfortably through the event and soak in everything the walk has to offer.
So mark your calendars, bring your family and friends, and join the Toledo Buddy Walk for an unforgettable day that not only celebrates those with Down syndrome but also creates a ripple of positivity throughout the entire community.
