Lake Township, Ohio – Excitement echoed through the Lake Local Schools community as leaders cut the ribbon on their brand-new, $36 million elementary school this past Sunday.
The modern, two-story building is set to welcome PreK through fifth-grade students starting September 3. This landmark project was funded by a levy approved by voters in November 2021, prompted by the need to replace the aging school initially built in the 1960s and demolished in July.
Lake Superintendent Marjoe Cooper expressed immense enthusiasm, stating that the new school significantly enhances the elementary education experience. The state-of-the-art facility was thoughtfully designed to foster optimal learning conditions for students.
Community members had the opportunity to explore the new 91,000 square-foot building during a Sunday afternoon open house, following the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The new elementary school boasts an array of impressive features, including 49 classrooms—a notable increase from the 29 classrooms in the old facility. Additionally, the school includes STEM and art classrooms with outdoor learning spaces, dedicated music and band rooms, and three separate recess areas tailored for younger students (PreK-1st Grade).
Comfort and convenience are key highlights, with the school now equipped with air conditioning and increased overall parking spaces on the Lake Schools Campus.
One standout feature is the flexible space dubbed 'the Cafenasium,' which serves as a multi-purpose area for breakfast and lunch, gym/athletic events, and other special activities.
As the new academic year approaches, both students and teachers are eagerly anticipating moving into this cutting-edge educational environment, setting a strong foundation for academic excellence.
