Excitement is palpable in Lake Township as community members gathered to celebrate the grand opening of a brand-new elementary school. On a sunny Sunday, leaders from Lake Local Schools cut the ribbon on their impressive $36 million educational facility, marking a significant leap forward for the district.

The two-story building is set to welcome PreK through fifth-grade students when classes begin on September 3rd. The project came to life after voters approved a levy in November 2021, acknowledging the pressing need to replace the aging school constructed in the 1960s. The old structure was demolished in July, making way for this cutting-edge educational space.

Lake Local Schools Superintendent Marjoe Cooper expressed his enthusiasm for the new development, highlighting how the state-of-the-art building is designed to greatly enhance the educational experience for young learners. From spacious classrooms to special facilities, every aspect aims to support students in achieving their highest potential.

The new 91,000 square-foot facility boasts an array of impressive features. There are now 49 classrooms, a substantial increase from the 29 available in the old school. Dedicated STEM and art classrooms come with outdoor learning spaces, fostering an environment ripe for creativity and hands-on learning.

In addition to its academic resources, the school includes dedicated music and band rooms, along with three recess spaces, accommodating the needs of students from PreK through first grade. These outdoor areas are specifically designed to cater to younger students, providing them with safe, engaging spaces to play and learn.

One of the standout features of the new elementary school is 'the Cafenasium.' This versatile space serves multiple purposes, including breakfast and lunch areas, gym and athletic events, as well as other special events. It’s an innovative solution to maximize utility within the school.

Increased parking facilities at the Lake Schools Campus are another bonus, making drop-offs and pick-ups smoother for parents and guardians.

The grand opening event drew large crowds, culminating in an open house that allowed community members to explore the new building. As the school year approaches, both staff and students are buzzing with anticipation to start their journey in this exceptional new learning environment.
