Lucas Co. Land Bank Secures Over $3M for Brownfield Projects

Good news for Toledo! The Lucas County Land Bank just announced they’ve bagged over $3 million for Brownfield remediation projects within Lucas County. This awesome funding comes from the Brownfield Remediation Program, which was crafted by the Ohio General Assembly, green-lit by Governor DeWine, and is being managed by the Ohio Department of Development.
Cheer for Toledo Metroparks as they get a whopping $1,052,938 to transform a segment of the new Glass City Metropark on Front Street into a cool urban campground. Picture it: a pavilion, cute cabins, handy parking areas, and easy access driveways.
The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library isn’t missing out either. They’ve nabbed $560,049 to convert a former shopping plaza on Alexis Road on the west side into the spanking new Washington Branch Library. Talk about recycling!
Kudos also go to the Land Bank itself, which has teamed up with the City of Toledo and Lucas County Commissioners to grab $525,000. This cash will help them assess environmental contamination on two key sites - the 9-acre Doehler Jarvis site and the 4-acre Craft House site in central Toledo. Spoiler: This is just the beginning, as cleanup dollars are expected to roll in during future funding rounds.
The Boys & Girls Club of Toledo snags $107,350 to demolish a blighted building and clean up the soil at their Homer Hanham Club on Monroe Street, part of a long-term expansion that’s sure to benefit our community.
Over in the City of Oregon, Three B’s Adventures LLC, in partnership with the city, is set to rejuvenate a former fire station on Seaman Road. With $69,986, they’ll tackle asbestos and convert the space into the home of Buffalo Rock Brewing Company. Score one for local business and community spaces.
St. Anthony’s church on Junction Avenue doesn’t go unnoticed. With $40,000 aimed at asbestos and other contaminants, this site is primed for redevelopment - stay tuned!
Exciting times ahead! According to Lindsay M. Webb, Chair of the Lucas County Land Bank and the Lucas County Treasurer, this funding ignites a makeover that’ll spark jobs and investments right here in Toledo. And that's not all! Governor DeWine also announced an additional $9.6 million for demolition and redevelopment projects. Thank you, Governor DeWine, Director Mihalik, and the Ohio General Assembly!
