Got art skills and love contributing to the community? The Arts Commission and the City of Toledo's Parks Department are on the lookout for artists to design a fresh new look for the shoot-around court at Inez Nash Park.
This isn't just any old gig. Three artists or teams will be selected to create designs not just for the court surface, but also for its five backboards. We're talking about transforming a 50 by 30-foot space (that's around 1170 square feet) into a work of art. And hey, each finalist gets a nice $2,000 stipend for their efforts.
So who exactly are they looking for? Artists with experience in public art and those who know how to incorporate community input into their creative process. It's open to all U.S. artists over 18, and yes, teams from multiple disciplines can apply. If you're interested, you'll need to submit your qualifications online through the Arts Commission website.
Wanna know the timeline? Here's the rundown: the Request for Qualifications launched on August 21, with submissions due by September 24. Review of applications kicks off on September 25, and finalists will be notified by October 17. Those lucky enough to make the cut will visit the site on October 29 and present their proposals on December 3. The winning designs will be announced on December 17, and get ready for the art to be installed in 2025.
This project is in line with The Arts Commission's commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access. They believe in creating space for conversations that bring the community together and bridge cultural gaps through art. By fostering an environment where everyone can contribute, they're making Toledo a more vibrant and inclusive place.
