In Ottawa Hills, Toledo, a quiet Tuesday night turned alarming when a tree limb fell and struck electric lines, causing a house to catch fire. Residents can breathe a slight sigh of relief as there were no occupants in the home at the time of the incident.

The fallen limb pulled the electric lines from the house, igniting a blaze that began in the basement and traveled up to the roofline, causing substantial damage. The property on Indian Road now bears the scars of this shocking event, with the interior heavily affected.

In an unsettling turn of events, one firefighter experienced an electric shock to the hand and forearm while checking the lines. The presence of an active line in the ground has prompted firefighters to wait for Toledo Edison to cut the electricity completely before they can safely enter the building for further inspection.

This incident isn't an isolated case. On a separate day, Toledo Fire and Rescue Department (TFRD) responded to a severe overnight fire on Knower Avenue, near Maumee Avenue. This fire emerged from the garage at the back of the property and rapidly spread to the main house. The blaze became so intense that the roof was entirely engulfed and eventually collapsed onto the second floor.

While no one was injured in this blaze either, multiple roads around Knower Avenue have been shut down as a precautionary measure and to aid firefighting efforts. According to TFRD's Battalion Chief, crews initially attempted to battle the flames inside the attic but had to resort to defensive measures.

The garage and house on Knower Avenue—fully occupied but fortunately empty at the time—were heavily compromised. The cause of this fire is currently under investigation, with fire investigators actively working at the scene.

These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of fires and the importance of prompt and coordinated emergency responses. The Toledo community remains resilient and continues to support each other during these troubling times.
