❤️ Toledo Review

Bayview Retirees Golf Course

Located in Toledo, Ohio, Bayview Retiree's Golf Course is a quirky little gem designed by Bruce Weber and opened in 1930. This 11-hole private course may not be the most polished facility in the area, but it's got its own unique charm, especially if you're a beginner looking to work on your game or simply spend some time with friends and family.

The course stretches over 2,542 yards from the back tees, with a par set at 34. Don’t expect any luxurious amenities or pristine conditions here—this course has winter rye fairways and bentgrass greens, maintained by a dedicated volunteer staff. With green fees as low as $5, it's a budget-friendly spot that surely offers a decent bang for your buck.

What sets Bayview apart is its accessibility for beginners and senior golfers. The layout is straightforward, devoid of intimidating water hazards and sand bunkers, which makes it a great training ground. Even more, despite it being a short course, it's well-kept, providing a decent practice space.

However, it’s worth noting that the clubhouse isn't exactly what you'd call welcoming. Staffed by volunteers who seem eager to close up shop, it's best to complete your round well before their unofficial cutoff time, which appears to be around 4 p.m., despite signage stating an 8 p.m. closure during the summer.

Signature holes to look out for include the 1st and 8th. The 1st hole, a 395-yard par 4 from the back tees, gives you a good idea of what the rest of the course holds with its straightforward layout. The 8th hole, on the other hand, stands out for its slightly longer 420-yard stretch, testing your driving accuracy.

When planning your visit, keep in mind that metal spikes aren’t allowed, and the dress code is generally casual. Bookings and tee time policies are somewhat flexible, but calling ahead for a reservation is highly recommended to avoid any surprises.

Despite its idiosyncrasies, Bayview Retiree's Golf Course has a dedicated following. It's a place where you can sharpen your golfing skills without the pressure, interact with friendly locals, and enjoy a stress-free round. Its low cost makes it easy to forgive the minor drawbacks.
