The Kings Throne Inn and Guest House

The Kings Throne Inn and Guest House, located at 2040 Collingwood Blvd in Toledo’s Historic Old West End, is a gem that captures the charm of a bygone era while providing modern conveniences. This stately home was bought and restored by Landon, the passionate owner, who has transformed it into a comfortable and welcoming retreat for travelers.

Unlike conventional hotels, The Kings Throne Inn offers a cozy and homelike environment. There are five guest rooms, each uniquely decorated with vintage furnishings and eclectic décor. The communal spaces – including a living room, parlor, dining room, and kitchen – invite guests to socialize or relax, surrounded by an eclectic mix of antiques and homey touches. The game-changing highlight here is the plentiful parking and the secure gate marked with a King Chess piece, ensuring guests' safety and ease of access.

My stay at The Kings Throne Inn was particularly made special by Landon’s thoughtful touches, like the daily make-it-yourself continental breakfast featuring milk, juice, coffee, tea, bread, cereal, and eggs. The updated kitchen, with modern appliances, offers a nostalgic look back at what the house might have been like in 1892. The property's proximity to the Toledo Museum of Art and other attractions makes it a perfect base for exploration.

The King, one of the signature rooms, is a delightful mix of antique elegance and modern comfort. The bay window alcove and non-functional fireplace add a romantic touch, while amenities like bathrobes, diffusers with essential oils, and well-stocked toiletries provide practical comfort. The room's private bath maintains original tiles and fixtures, enhancing its historic charm. However, some rooms share a bathroom at the end of the hallway, which, although well-maintained, might pose a slight inconvenience for some.

The guesthouse also offers additional conveniences such as a laundry area, large front porch, and a tranquil backyard garden. Guests can use the free Wi-Fi and make themselves comfortable in the communal TV lounge, which features a large flat-screen TV. For reservation flexibility, the hotel offers same-day bookings until 8 PM and provides easy self-check-in instructions for late arrivals.

While mostly my experience was pristine, a few minor upgrades could enhance the guest experience. For instance, the squeaky stairs and some rooms needing minor refurbishment are potential areas for improvement. Also, the location's historic district, while fascinating, borders an economically challenged neighborhood, though most guests mentioned feeling safe during their stay.

Landon's hospitality and the well-maintained establishment make The Kings Throne Inn a standout choice for anyone visiting Toledo. The blend of old-world charm with new-world amenities, combined with the prime location near museums, zoos, and restaurants, indeed makes this a memorable stay.
