❤️ Toledo Review
The Heights
The Heights in Toledo is not just a restaurant; it's an experience. Situated on the twelfth floor of the Renaissance Toledo Downtown Hotel, it offers stunning panoramic views of the Maumee River and the downtown skyline, making it a perfect spot for both romantic dinners and celebratory gatherings. However, while the setting is beautiful, the food and service can be a mixed bag.
Let's talk food first. The Heights has a diverse menu featuring wood-fired pizzas, snacks, handhelds, and salads. The Margherita pizza stands out with its perfect cheese ratio and a deliciously charred crust. Another hit is the Creme Brulee Cheesecake, often praised for its creamy texture and satisfying caramelized top. Their Nachos, however, have received mixed reviews, with some finding them underwhelming in terms of toppings.
The appetizer menu is quite varied, with highlights including the Hummus Plate served with warm pita bread—perfectly seasoned and smooth. The Artichoke Dip is another crowd favorite but on the smaller side in portion. For handhelds, the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich is a must-try, offering a good kick of spice, and the Shrimp and Grits also come highly recommended for its rich flavors.
Unfortunately, not everything on the menu hits the mark. The Pepperoni Pizza and Loaded Fries appear less impressive, with some diners finding them bland or too greasy. Drink-wise, their handcrafted cocktails generally receive high praise, although there have been complaints about overpriced drinks, particularly their $20 shots.
Service at The Heights can be inconsistent. While some servers like Philip are lauded for their attentiveness and knowledge of the menu, there have been instances of slow service and even less-than-pleasant interactions. Several diners have noted that the staff seemed unprepared, with complaints about dirty silverware and a lack of available cutlery. Additionally, there have been troubling reports of racially insensitive behavior from some staff members, which is definitely a glaring issue.
If you plan to visit, it’s best to book a table in advance and aim for times around sunset to get the best of those breathtaking views. Happy hours from Monday to Thursday, 4 PM to 6:30 PM, offer better value on some of their snacks and drinks.
Reservations can be made through OpenTable or by calling (419) 243-7565. The Heights is located at 444 N Summit Street, Toledo, Ohio. Note: Parking can be a bit of a hassle, with the nearest garage being the Vistula Parking Garage across the street.
